Young Mayor's Budget Proposals 2009/10
The Young Mayor has a budget of £30,000 to develop projects in Lewisham. These are the ideas from the young people so far....
1. Achievement and skills
- Carear fairs and role model events/better work experience oppurtunities.
- Award schemes recognising good effort and volunteering, celebrations of young people's achievements in arts, sports, music and entertainment.
- Discounted evening classes for practical skills such as plumbing and electrics courses.
- Increased sexual health awareness.
- Scouted football tournaments and other sports events.
2. Communtiy Cohesion
- Challenging stereotypes by using good examples from both young people and adults in the local press and in advertisements.
- Social networking projects.
- Training adults (e.g police/bus drivers etc) in youth work and engagement.
- Blockparties/garden parties.
3. Publicity
- Termly youth friendly information/news and leaflets
- Social networking projects.
- Uniformed street teams providing information and freebies.
4. Extending young peole's participation
- Teaching more politics in schools
- More involvement in regeneration projects.

Peer Inspectors FlierPeer Inspectors..Whats out there for young people? Come and help make sure activities and services are doing what young people in Lewisham need them to do..
A peer inspector is a person who checks on the services provided for people (in this case young people) to ensure that the service is delivering and catering to the needs and wants of young people. As a peer inspector you will have the opportunity to test out services and activities and give constructive feedback into whether the services you inspect are up to standard, if activities need changing or modifications.
There will also be a trip to Margret Macmillan in Greenwich which is a team building outdoor center.
You will be required for a few days over the summer which will be suited best to your availability.
