August 2011-May 2012: YCP Fantasy Football

It's back - the YCP presents a new season of fantasy football as the Premiers League season begins. We're hosting our league at http://fantasy.premierleague.com/ so if you played last year you shouldn't have any problems signing up. If you're new to YCP fantasy football it takes no more than 5 minutes to register.

April 2011 - Business & Money Management

With the beginning of the financial year we looked at business and money management with some local experts. Thanks to everyone who took part in some interesting conversations about starting a business, social enterprise, local assemblies and managing money at university. Specialn thanks to our guests Georgina, Adenike, Yasmin, Fabienne and Nieema who really engaged with everyone present.
March 2011 - International Women;s Week

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our International Women's Week celebration - it was a truly fantastic day with dance, drama, music, inspirational speakers, advice and information all celebrating the contribution of women to society over the last century. Whether you were involved in organising the event, performed or simply came along to see what was going on you helped to create a memorable experience for everyone involved.
February 2011 - Relationships and Sexual Health

Thanks to Lewisham Young Womens Resource Project for hosting our February Live Event on relationships and sexual health. We had a really lively conversation about the positives and negatives of relationships, "wifey season", daggering and respect between both sexes. Thanks to everyone who took part and to our guests Arnold, Kate and Kelly who shared their expertise on young fathers, teenage pregnancy and domestic abuse. We will hopefully have some videos up from this event in the near future.
January 2011 - Disability Awareness
A big thank you to Green Vale School, Pendragon School, Sedgehill, Rockbourne Youth Club and Lewisham Young Womens Resource Project for having us along to find out what the Young Mayor can do for them. We hope to see you again soon to continue the good work we've started together.
Rockbourne Youth Club - March 14th - Young people at Rockbourne Youth Club had the opportunity to share some of their ideas for how the Young Mayor could improve Lewisham for them with his £30,000 budget. Here are some of their ideas:
- Improved accessibility for young people in wheelchairs on transport and for buildings across the borough
- More advertising of arrangements that young people with disabilities have to make to get around
- Better work experience opportunities for young people
- Making different activities available including stilt walking
Lewisham Young Womens Resource Project - January 28th - Young people at Lewisham Young Womens Resource Project had the opportunity to share some of their ideas for how the Young Mayor could improve the borough for them Here are some of their suggestions:
- A booklet outlining all the services available to young people with disabilities or special needs
- Redeveloping some of the borough's youth clubs and activities
- Arranging summer schemes for young people to learn new skills
- More work with the Youth In Action Programme to arrange trips for young people
Sedgehill - January 19th - Students at Sedgehill had the opportunity to talk with Kieza Silveira De Sousa about their ideas to improve Lewisham Borough for young people. Here are some of their suggestions:
- Increased awareness of young people with learning difficulties
- Opportunities for young people to learn how to sign
- Improve police presence in the Downham/Whitefoot area
- More work with older generations to share experiences
Pendragon School - January 19th - Students at Pendragon School had the opportunity to put forward their ideas for Young Mayor Kieza Silveira De Sousa. Here are some of their suggestions:
- Make improvements to youth clubs to make them more attractive to young people
- Encourage the police to work better with young people
- Improve the perception of young people in the media
- Discourage negative attitudes towards young people with disabilities and learning difficulties
Green Vale School - January 14th - Students at Green Vale School had the opportunity to put forward their ideas for Young Mayor Kieza Silveira De Sousa. Here are some of their suggestions:
- A SEN representative for the borough to work alongside the Young Mayor
- Partnership work with other SEN schools such as Brent Knoll and Pendragon
- A SEN Careers Fair for young people in Lewisham
- More support and assistance on transport for those with disabilities

Thursday 16th December 2010 - Looking Back/Looking Forward
We had a great turnout to our last Live Event of 2010 where we were looking back over the last year at the YCP and looking forward to what Kieza is planning to do during his year as Young Mayor. Thanks to the Young Citizens from Prendergast Ladywell Fields College, the Climate Squad and everyone else who helped us see out a very good year for the YCP. We look forward to working with everyone again in 2011. Enjoy the holidays!
November 2010 - Out and About

After the excitement had died down following this year's Young Mayor elections it was time to get the ball rolling for Kieza's year at the helm. In various different guises the YCP took part in a citizenship lesson at Prendergast Ladywell Fields College, a leadership day at Sydenham High School and Takeover Day where this year's Young Mayor candidates got to work closely with different departments across Lewisham Council. Thanks to everyone who was involved.
Thursday 30th September 2010 - Young Mayor Elections

This September we welcomed a good number of the candidates along to the Council Chamber to share their ideas with yet another audience. All of the candidates spoke very well before engaging in a very lively debate about crime in the borough. Keep an eye out for the candidates as they enter their final week of campaigning - the result will be announced on Thursday 14th October.
Saturday 25th September 2010 - Youth Event 2010

A good turnout at Catford Power League this September made for a really good Youth Event 2010. As well as providing the candidates for this year's Young Mayor Elections an opportunity to share their ideas there were also workshops on the changes being made to council spending and information and opportunities from the Catford Regeneration Project and the Sexual Health Services. Thanks to everyone who came along.
August 2010 - Going Mobile

Throughout the summer the YCP was out and about discussing the Council's budget for the next few years to see where money can be saved or spent differently. We got some brilliant responses from people across the borough which have all gone forward to the Mayor and Cabinet to influence their decisions.
Wednesday 28th July 2010 - Intergenerational Event

In July we had a bumper turnout for probably the biggest YCP Live Event to date. Working alongside the Positive Ageing Board we ran a quiz, several discussions and enjoyed a scene from upcoming local play "The Search For Love". Thanks to everyone who came along and big thanks to Cllr Peggy Fitzsimmons, Matthew Upton, Wozzy Brewster and Bottomline Theatre for making the event such a big success.
Monday 26th July 2010 - Xbox Tournament: Pro Evo 10

Our first ever YCP Gaming Tournament proved to be a huge success as Pro Evo 10 provided great goals, super saves and a good helping of controversy. Played through projectors in Rooms 1 and 2 in the Civic Suite this was a really fun gaming experience and one we'll hopefully be repeating. Thanks to everyone for your patience with us setting this event up and congratulations to our tournament winner Sinclair Springer.
Friday 11th June - Sunday 11th July 2010 - World Cup Fantasy Football League

Throughout the FIFA World Cup in South Africa we ran a Fantasy Football League to see which YCP members had the potential to be the next Jose Mourinho. Congratulations to Ashley Dantzie, Rhys Parsons and Rochelle Gidden for finishing in the top three - prizes to be sorted out very soon.
Wednesday 23rd June 2010 - Celebration
June's Live Event was a Celebration of the Young Mayor and YCP Project which is now six years old. We welcomed back loads of former Young Advisors and talked about the upcoming Young People's Conference before enjoying the NHK (Japanese TV) documentary on Jacob's experiences as Young Mayor.
Wednesday 25th May 2010 - Families & Relationships

May's Live Event looked into families and relationships and how they affect our lives. Guests included representatives from the Young Fathers Programme, the Teenage Pregnancy Team and Sure Start. Thanks to Sharde for chairing such a lively and interesting event.
Thursday 6th/Friday 7th May 2010 - Election Night Live

Our first completely interactive Live Event covered the General and Local Elections in Lewisham all through the night. Thanks to everyone who got involved via Facebook and Twitter in what turned out to be a very interesting 24 hours.
Tuesday 27th April 2010 - Regeneration

For our Regeneration Live Event we took YCP on the road to The Albany in Deptford where we had a tour of the work going on. Thanks to the Regeneration Team and the Young Planners for taking part in a very different YCP event.
Wednesday 24th March 2010 - General Elections

In March we welcomed young representatives from the Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green Parties for a Live Event on the upcoming local and national elections. Thanks to Renie and Ashleigh for chairing a very lively evening of debate and discussion.
Wednesday 24th February 2010 - YOUR Lewisham, YOUR YCP

February's Live Event was time to reflect on some of the YCP's mistakes and look to the future and where we can improve. Jacob also had an opportunity to discuss his budget proposals and all in all it was a very productive evening. Thanks to Rhys for chairing.
Tuesday 26th January 2010 - Being Healthy

The first Live Event of 2010 was based on being healthy in mind, body and soul. Representatives from SLAM, Lewisham PCT and Sports Development discussed how to stay and healthy and where to find help when needed. Thanks to Adeola for chairing.
