Become the next Young Mayor
Thanks to everyone who voted in the 2011/12 Young Mayor of Lewisham elections. Below are the manifestos for the new Young Mayor, Deputy Young Mayor and UKYP Representatives. Congratulations to them and all of the candidates who took part. It's never too early to start thinking about becoming the next Young Mayor so have a look at the manifestos below for some inspiration.
Kieran Lang (Young Mayor of Lewisham 2011/12)

I have often been stereotyped as a disobedient young person who causes nothing but trouble. Young people are frequently labelled as negative. So the reason I am running for Young Mayor of Lewisham is to alter the way we are looked upon. I am confident that if society saw our talents, saw our dedication and our citizenship, maybe even saw us having fun, we could change that perception.
Since the August riots there has been an atmosphere in Lewisham. There is greater division between young people and adults while before we might have been considered annoying and intimidating we are seen as hooligans and criminals.
As Young Mayor of Lewisham my main aim is to create opportunities for all ages for these groups to get together to share skills and knowledge and to put on events which will help young people shine. My purpose will be to restore our credibility and mend relationships. Vote for me because I am an example not a stereotype.
Chezney Speed-Skyers (Deputy Young Mayor of Lewisham 2011/12)

My name is Chezney and I am an enthusiastic individual who never used to be hard working but realised that if I wanted to see a change. I first had to change. We need somebody who is not afraid to be the voice for us. We need somebody who sees things through our eyes. We need somebody who is passionate and unbreakable. Boys and girls, this is me.
As Mayor this is one of many things I would tackle. We feel that police take advantage of their authority to stop and search. Therefore my solution is to bridge the gap between youth and police through drama productions, seminars and workshops that put police in the position of young people and young people in position of police. I will teach you that failure is not when you fall but when you refuse to get up. I will teach you that your start does not determine your end. Just because you are a young person from Lewisham does not meant you cannot be the next Prime Minister. In the words of Sedgehill, together we can all achieve.
Thank you!
Valence Festus (Lewisham UKYP Representative 2011/12)

I have come not because I want fame for I am already famous at my own level (to know more about me go on my YouTube channel MoitiVent). In life we all have aspiration and targets but most times lack organisation and direction. I created a niche for myself which is hard work – the only key to success. I have learnt that you can only be who you want to be if you take hard work as a compulsory task. I also learnt that the steps to being who or where you want to be starts by discovering yourself, setting your goals, choosing your pace, building self-confidence and refusing to be distracted. I have tried it and it worked for me, with this in mind, we can embrace the system and together face our challenges, overcome every hitch and climb over to the sunny side of life. Send me on an errand and I will deliver without mistakes. To be honest I won’t promise to do the impossible. But what I can promise is that I will never fail.
We are the tomorrow that we see today, let us act today to preserve tomorrow for posterity.
Humza Raja (Lewisham UKYP Representative 2011/12)

I am passionate about making change within the borough of Lewisham. After recent events I feel even more passionate and driven to improve Lewisham and the lives of the young people living in the borough. With your support if I am elected Young Mayor of Lewisham 2011 I will strive to enhance the young community and tackle the issues facing the youth today. The young people are my voice and will be the main input in the decisions that are made. So far within the school community there have been many great ideas how to improve the borough. If elected I would like to arrange activities that will be fun, enjoyable and encourage young people of the borough to take pride in their lives and the great borough in which they live. Forget the rest, vote for the best, Humza Raja.
